Category Archives: My Bridal Fashion Guide

I have always been obsessed with bridal fashion- after all, it is always before my eyes and lenses. So, I thought I would write about some of the beautiful creations that I dream about photographing. Perhaps it will be of some interest to my brides and readers. I remember when I got married, the difficult process of picking the right dress and accessories. I didn’t know where to start from and had no vision in mind to guide my choice. I thought it will interest my readers & all the brides out there to see what feels and looks great but also photographs beautifully.

My Bridal Fashion Guide to Vintage Weddings

I personally love the idea of having a vintage wedding theme. I find it different and unique- and very inspiring to photograph, as a wedding photographer. Vintage dresses are usually made from exquisite fabrics and beautifully crafted. They allow brides to wear something that is totally unique and which can be worn from the day of purchase. Of course, a vintage wedding dress that is in good condition and which fits properly is not always easy to come by.

“The Great Gatsby” Movie Inspiration

With the release of The Great Gatsby, I had to post about it on my blog. I went to see the movie and I found the setting amazing, and I loved the intricately gorgeous costumes used through out this movie. From the beaded flapper dresses to the crystal head pieces, I can’t help but think that this will definitely be the most glamorous and elegant renditions of all.

With designers including Miuccia Prada and Oscar-winner Catherine Martin responsible for dressing the stars, we are set to see outfits inspired by the archives of Prada, Miu Miu, Tiffany & Co and Brooks Brothers.

Here are a few more dresses that can be applicable as wedding dresses inspired by The Great Gatsby:

Great Gatsby Inspiration for the Groom

Brooks Brothers

International retailer Brooks Brothers has released a limited-edition menswear collection inspired by the costumes in Baz Luhrmann’s adaptation of The Great Gatsby. The line, produced in collaboration with the film’s costume designer Catherine Martin, is comprised of Art Deco-inspired formalwear and daywear, including tuxedos, tailored suits, suiting separates, shirts, ties, shoes and accessories. Most pieces are inspired directly by looks worn by Jay Gatsby (Leonardo DiCaprio) and Nick Carraway (Tobey Maguire). The characters’ costumes have been “modified for the collection so they are at once clearly inspired by the era but entirely wearable today,” the company said. A few significant pieces include a pinstriped pink suit made from 100 percent linen-the same fabric used for the film-and a bowtie worn by Gatsby during the film.

My Bridal Fashion Guide to Romantic Wedding Dresses

I recently shot a fashion shoot, styled by Merci NY and was incredibly inspired by the experience and on an emotional high for several days after. Shortly following that, another one of my brides-to-be, asked my opinion about her wedding dress and sent me to the website of I designer I love- Yolan Cris. This all got me to actively think about bridal fashion. I have always been a bit obsessed with bridal fashion- after all, it is always before my eyes and lenses. So, I thought I would write about some of the beautiful creations that I dream about photographing. Perhaps it will be of some interest to my brides and readers. Perhaps it will even encourage them to run out and splurge! (Grooms should not be reading this post perhaps :) ). I remember when I got married, the difficult process of picking the right dress. I didn’t know where to start from and had no vision in mind to guide my choice. I was fortunate, after being haunted by indecision and five possibilities that I could not narrow down, that my Mom was there to help make the final critical decision.

I was married over four years ago already! While I am certainly happy about that, I do wish I could do it all over again so I could wear all those beautiful dresses. :) As you can see, some of the dresses that I picked to show are white, but not all of them. I think most of the brides, when they think about a wedding dress, cannot help but envision the traditional gown. However, I think different colors like cream, subtle golds, earth tones, soft pink and blush – can all be very glamorous, romantic, feminine, and possibly more expressive of the bride’s personality.

I especially like vintage looking dresses with all their beautiful details inc. the beading, unique fabrics, the natural flow of the fabric etc. Many of the designers that I mentioned below have had their dresses worn on red carpets, so I bride cannot help but feel swathed in glamour wearing one.

When I take pictures on the wedding day, if the bride is wearing a spectacular or unique dress with beautiful accessories,
it undeniably inspires me to push the limits of my creativity as a photographer. I want to capture her, not only as she is, but as she feels and imagines herself to be.

There was a new profile of bride: women who had become established in the world of employment and had great fashion sensibility and flair. These brides wanted to get married in a special gown that made them feel unique and wanted their gowns to reflect their unique personalities. They wanted a dress with ‘magic’ that dazzled their partners and made them feel stunning and spectacular.

Leluxe

LeLuxe began out of a need to preserve the style of the 1920s Flapper era. Throughout the years they have revived and reinvented gowns in a modern style, and worked on perfecting fabulous beaded gowns, cotton embroidered dresses, and vintage inspired accessories.

Vogue Fashion Shoot Inspiration with Natalie Portman

I know it’s not quite related to weddings, but I love the dresses that were used for this fashion shoot, especially the blush dress!  It can definitely also apply to weddings, as these outfits would make for incredible wedding fashion.

As a photographer I adore the work of fashion photographer, Peter Lindbergh, who did this amazing shoot in a beautiful old hotel. It was such a perfect visual setting for those beautiful fashion pieces.

In this shoot for Vogue, Natalie says she was modeling clothes from Rodarte, J. Mendel, Prada and others. Here are my favorite photos from that shoot:

Elie Saab 2013 Collection

Elie Saab

Lebanese designer Elie Saab has long been a leading name in haute couture in the Middle East, where his romantic, crystal-encrusted gowns attracted princesses to his Beirut atelier, opened in 1982 when he was just 18 years old. His ready-to-wear line, which launched in 1998 in Milan, heralds the same feminine aesthetic as his couture dresses, with brightly colored silks, chiffons, pearl beading, and embroidered lace.

Rosa Clará

The ROSA CLARÁ GROUP conveys hope and creates a magical environment wrapped up in beauty, elegance and unique style. Rosa Clará has always been in the fashion sector. However, at the beginning of the 90s, she realised that many women were deeply dissatisfied with what was available in the wedding market.
