Nanci & Robert

Nanci & Robert got married on June 6th at the Holy Family Church in New Rochelle.and afterwards celebrated at the Indian Yacht Club in Greenwich .

I am never sure until I do the editing what the overall impact of the collection of photos will be, in the general sense of how they capture and reflect the wedding. In Nanci and Robert’s, the feeling I got from the many special, real moments was the overwhelming theme
of heartfelt emotion that runs through the pictures. There are several images for instance of Robert’s Dad, Bruce, who displayed great emotion throughout the ceremony and especially in the deep hug he gave Nanci afterwards when they greeted they guests and received congratulations. That is the way to welcome the bride into a new family!

The toasts in the wedding were also very touching, especially Nanci’s friend, Maureen, who made everyone, in keeping with the best of toasts, cry and laugh at the same time. For me as as photographer, in those instances, the viewfinder is not just the simple frame provided by the camera that lets me envision the composition of the photos, but also acts as a small window into the lives and very composition of the emotions, relationships, and families and couples I shoot. This extra emotional connection with people is a great pleasure when photographing the most meaningful moments of their lives.

These are Nanci’s words describing how she and Rob met and fell in love. When I read the story, I was really touched. I love the way she expressed and recalled exactly what she felt at first sight.

“Rob and I met through a very close friend; Joanna. Joanna and I grew up together in New Rochelle and Rob met her while attending college at Hofstra University. Rob and a friend of his played in a band together and Joanna invited me to come hear them play one night in the spring of 2002. When I saw him on stage playing the bongos and singing melodic harmonies….my heart skipped a beat. Joanna will even quote me as saying “he’s my dream guy” that very night! At the time I was in a relationship, so we were introduced, said a few words to one another and that was all…

In the years that followed Rob would ask Joanna about me and I would ask her about him. We would sporadically see one another at functions such as birthdays or house warming gatherings. Yet the timing was still not right…

A few days after my birthday in August 2004, Rob sent me a text “happy belated birthday”…which was very sweet and sparked us emailing everyday and texting every night before bed. After about six months, he came out with a few of my girl friends and I in NYC. We had our first kiss that night, and we’ve been together ever since…it was finally our time!

Bob Marley’s Waiting in Vain, expresses feelings of our journey from our first encounter to our first embrace. We never stopped thinking about one another since we met…perhaps we needed those years to mature and grow as individuals to appreciate the type of relationship we were meant to have…
