Veronika & Jermaine

Veronika & Jermaine were married at the Brooklyn City Hall. There is something very special and charming about City Hall weddings and it certainly suited Veronika and Jermaine’s fun and hip personalities. Couples in the mood who want to cross the bridge might also check out the new Manhattan Marriage Bureau, which had just been remodeled and is earning high praise. We took photos later in Brooklyn Heights and along the promenade.

This is the lovely email I received from Veronika that touched my heart and put a smile
on my face as I saw the email pop up on my iPhone, while I was walking outside on a cold blustery NYC day
:

THANK YOU so much for the slideshow, it’s so so so cool!
I love it, it’s just awesome!
I can’t wait for the DVD and the prints!

You are a brilliant photographer! The pictures are beautiful!
Now I really “feel” married as I’ve seen the pictures, I was smiling throughout the whole slideshow.
I can’t wait for Jermaine to see it when he comes from work!

You made our day even more special, you created our memories, and with your camera you expressed the feelings we have for each other and for that I would like to thank you with all my heart. You are a real artist because you put life into your pictures.
I will recommend you everywhere I go and if I ever would like some nice pictures, you are the first person I contact.

And this is this story of how Veronika and Jermaine met in her own words:

“I started studying construction engineering in Brno, Czech Republic, in 2001 and found it very technical … after 2 years I needed a break, so I interrupted my studies for one year and went to New York as an Au-pair (nanny) in summer 2003. In mid November 2003 something beautiful happened … I went out with my friends to a club called Avalon in Manhattan … I was standing by the bar, kind of bored, and suddenly someone knocks on my back! I was ready to yell at the guy but when I turned around I saw a very handsome guy in front of me ;o) So instead of cursing him out, I started dancing with him … and we danced all night. At the end of the night, he asked for my number and I gave him the real one :o)
He made me very happy by calling me a couple days later :o) We started dating and we were enjoying our NY romance until summer 2004 when I had to leave the US and go back to the university in the Czech Republic :o( My body & smile left New York, but my heart stayed… we stayed very close although we were separated by the Atlantic ocean… I haven’t seen Jermaine for a year. We spoke every weekend, emailed every day, and missed each other every second. Seeing him again in 2005 made me fall in love with him even more and I decided to apply for a US visa. I did it in spring 2006 and experienced the most stressful days so far. Walking to the US embassy on a cold April morning with empty stomach and loved up heart is not the best feeling… The thought of an officer who doesn’t know anything about me yet will decide about my relationship was killing me… His “access denied” stamp would not only break our relationship, but would also break my heart… Luckily, the nightmare didn’t happen, I got my visa and spent 4 wonderful sunny happy months with Jermaine. Then back again, back to our long distance love, last year of university, graduation, and back to NY to spend another fantastic summer with Jermaine… My stay in NY ended with the summer – we said goodbye again and I went to the UK to start my first proper job in a consulting engineering company. I had a cool boss, salary, and plenty of vacation days so I was able to visit Jermaine often. I stayed in the UK for a year – gained great working experience and lots of stamps in my passport. It was our 5-year anniversary in November 2008 so we decided to celebrate it together during Thanksgiving. On the Thanksgiving Day Jermaine asked me a question – and it was not “Did you like the turkey?” … it was a way better and much more breathtaking kind of question – he asked me to marry him! I said “yes” and withing a few weeks I had a smile on my face and a new last name :o) We got married in Brooklyn in January 2009 at the presence of our old friend Dennis and our new friend Shira, the most talented photographer in the world!

Veronika”
